Today's reading

Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

Matthew 18:20

This verse is often read as a promise about crowds. It is really a promise about the minimum — that it takes only two people, not a movement, for this to be true.

If today is a day with almost no one in it, the verse is not describing a threshold you have failed to reach. It is describing the smallest room this applies to, and asking whether you might make one phone call to fill it.

Who is the one person you could actually reach today?
