I have called you by name; you are mine.

Isaiah 43:1

A name is the smallest, most particular thing about a person. This verse is not addressed to a category of people having a hard week — it is addressed to one person, by name.

Most days ask you to function as a role: the one who handles things, the one who shows up. This line asks nothing of you. It simply states whose you are before anything else is true.

When did you last let yourself be addressed rather than needed?
