Today's reading

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.

Psalm 34:18

This is not a promise that heartbreak will be short. It is a promise about proximity — that closeness, not distance, is God's ordinary posture toward whatever in you feels broken today.

It can be tempting to tidy up before approaching prayer, as if a rough day disqualifies you. The verse suggests the opposite order: the rougher the day, the nearer this psalm claims God already is.
